Just on a hunch, I decided to do a search for COMP USA lawsuit. We purchased a HP desktop in 1997 with an extended 5 yr. warranty ($430). After purchasing the warranty we received a Norton disk, but nothing in writing other than a general statement listing what the warranty covered. When I called to ask about this, I was told not to worry--they had all the inform. on the computer and no paper verification was needed. As I had just purchased some e-tickets on the internet, I was naive enough to believe them. The first service call was fine--then in 1999 we called for service and was told that Warren Tech. (contracted to provide the tech support and service) was in litigation with Comp USA and would not provide service or release any information about our contract. . After many, many phone calls, I finally reached someone who said that yes our contract was valid and would be honored by Comp USA. They faxed my husband a brief statement, which unfortunately, we misplace, not that it would be honored as we feel Comp USA has been very untruthful with us regarding this whole warranty area. I called for tech support earlier this month from Comp USA. I received support by phone 4X, but could not fix the problem. I was told that yes, my contract was valid and I should take the computer in to my Comp USA Store, where it is now being "held hostage" because the manager denies that we have any warranty. I hope you have received
a good response to your web site as I am sure that there are hundreds of
people in our particular situation, having purchased an extended warranty
that is not being honored. I also plan to contact the Consumer Fraud Division
of the Attorney General's Office of IL. Have you contacted this or any
other consumer group?
