I’ve been dealing with my personal Damark nightmare since the middle of June (it’s now July 11th).  I ordered a $14.99 item over the phone in April.  Got the merchandise and was fairly happy with everything.  While I was on the phone the fast talking guy at the scam center, I mean order center offered to send me info on the “buyer’s club”, so I said OK after a lot of talking from the guy, after all, it was just information, or so I thought.  Two months later, I see a charge on my card statement that is for “Membership Services” for $104.99.  I never got anything in the mail, no number to call to cancel, nothing.

I called the number on my statement, told them I didn’t approve any money coming out of my account, and wanted it credited back.  They said that I couldn’t get the whole amount back, which I didn’t understand, but I would take any amount they would give back and I figured the rest would just be “lesson learned”.  They told me that the money would be back in my account
in 72 hours.  72 hours came and went, no money was credited.  I called back, was told that it was still processing, give it another 72 hours.  I was angry at that point.  Three days past again, no money.  I called back, the lady said give it till the end of the week, so I did.  Still no credit.  I called back again, the lady says wait till the end of the day, it was still processing.  What kind of computer takes two weeks to process a transaction?

I called back again and this time asked to speak to a supervisor.  She said that they had only noted that I had called once before, but this was in fact my sixth call.  The supervisor said that she would get this whole mess straightened out.  That the money would REALLY be in my account in three days.  Three days later, you guessed it, no money.  I called back and asked to speak with a supervisor again.  I got a different one this time, and she said: “I see that your membership was cancelled on the sixth.”  On the sixth of July?  I called to cancel on the 18th of June!  They didn’t even cancel the membership until 18 days later?  I was really angry at this point.  I told her that I would warn anybody that I came in contact with not to order
anything from Damark, even people I just saw in the elevator, ANYBODY, and I was putting up a website and registering it with all the search engines that I could.  She got really quiet, then said “I’m sorry you feel that way.”  ME TOO!  I shouldn’t have to!  I don’t have the site ready, but I will pretty soon.  I also plan to fax a letter to the Attorney General of Georgia, and lodge a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, but I don’t know what good it will do.

How many people get scammed like this everyday, and don’t know it?  How many people do they get that don’t pay close attention to their credit card statements?   I just don’t understand how they are still getting away with it.

Well, that’s my two cents, it feels good to vent.  Great website by the way, it is very necessary, keep up the good work.

Thank you,

Brian Godfrey
