In July of last year, I went to the Dell.com website and through the site I purchased a Dell Inspiron 8000 laptop. At the time, with the options I ordered and the software package, this particular model cost almost $2500.00. Now Dell is offering a similarly-equipped laptop but with an even larger hard drive and a dvd as well as a cd burner for about $1200.00 on tv. I am warning everyone not to purchase ANY Dell laptop, as I have tried a variety of operating systems and can't keep one running for more than 90 days without a complete sytem crash. Dell support can't figure out why and they have replaced just about everey component in this over-priced paper weight, but still it continues to need a full restore in a very brief period of time. I have learned not to keep any important information on the hard drive as there is rarely any warning of immanent failure. And no, I really don't believe it's user error... I work for an ISP, for Goddess sake!! I
have heard recently that there is a consumer group in England suing Dell
over this model of laptop because they used standard desktop processors
in them instead of ones made for laptops, but I haven't been able to confirm
anything about that.
