Leave
your mundane worries at the gate, get your home away from home set up,
and settle in for an enjoyable weekend of Pagan Networking, Knowledge Exchange,
and Fun.
The natural
setting of New Quarter Park in historic Yorktown is rich with historical
and new times energies that allow us to renew our connection with the Mother,
and to look into our future to see the changes we are creating right now!
Children's
Maypole Dance, Spring 1997 Gathering
The Gathering
is growing by leaps and bounds!
This tremendous
upsurge of interest in Pagan, Wiccan, and other "Magical" Traditions is
not just a local phenomenon, it is a National, even International wonder
to behold! We are proud to be a part of it!
Our increase
in numbers does mean that we can invite nationally known Pagan Authors,
Artists, and Activists to share their visions and experiences with us,
and we have done exactly that!
We
are proud to have
Janet
and Stewart Farrar
and
Gaven
Bone
as
our guest speakers at the
Spring
Gathering of the Tribes
Janet
and Stewart Farrar have authored several of the books now
considered to be basic texts on WitchCraft in the Pagan Community.
They have been publishing their works on the subjects of Paganism, Magick
and Witchcraft since 1971, and are recognized experts on WitchCraft and
the Occult. What
Witches Do, Eight Sabbats for Witches, A Witches Bible, The Witches' Way,
The Witches' Goddess, The Witches' God, Life and Times of a Modern Witch,
and Spells and How They Work are just a few of the books they have
published in the United States, Britain and as far afield as Brazil, Japan
and the Czech Republic.
Gavin
Bone joined Janet and Stewart Farrar in 1993, and has since
worked with them on The Pagan Path, a study of Paganism worldwide.
All three are practicing Wiccans and live together in the Republicof Ireland,
in a small cottage with an influx of field mice, six lazy cats and poor
plumbing!
....and that's not all!!!!
In addition,
The 1998 Spring Gathering
of the Tribes is pleased to present .....
Earil
Wilson Aroma Magic
Earil, owner and operator
of Uncommon Scents, presents this EXTREMELY unique workshop on Scents,
and their use in Magic. Earil's workshop was canceled last year due to
the fact that she just completely forgot us. Yup, she had to be reminded
that she was booked in two different States at the same time ...
but we are not bitter, we just intend to hold her to her promise to attend
this Spring, EVEN IF SHE HAS TO HOP HERE!
Kirk McLaren
(Amulets
by Merlin ) The Tarot Casters
The Introduction to
the Tarot Casters is a favorite workshop among festival goers. Kirk’s system
is based upon small sculptures of the Major Arcana that can be tossed
like stones and read as they fall. This new approach to the Tarot
frees the reader from the old layouts and enables the intuitive muscles
to work in new ways. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned professional,
you may find this a great joy!
Donna
Schneider Celtic Hair Braiding
Donna is back to once
again make us feel pretty! Standard, French, Medieval, and Celtic
braiding will be demonstrated as well as how to incorporate flowers, beads.
ribbons. or cords into these styles. Braids can be functional as
well as festive!
The Group Ritual, and various other functions throughout the Gathering, are being performed by the South Side and the Peninsula CUPPS. The Covenant of Unitarian Universalist Pagans is formed for the purposes of enabling networking among Pagan identified UUs; providing outreach of Unitarian Universalism to the broader Pagan Community; providing educational materials on Paganism for Unitarian Universalist congregations and the general public; promoting Pagan and Jewish / Christian dialogue; encouraging the development of theological and liturgical materials based on earth and nature centered religious and spiritual perspectives; encouraging greater use of music, dance, visual arts, poetry, story, and creative ritual in Unitarian Universalist worship and celebration; providing support for Pagan identified UU religious professionals and ministerial students; and fostering healing relationships with our Mother the Earth and all her children.
Additional Workshops are in the making, and we are finalizing arrangements for a VERY SPECIAL musical performance Saturday night!
There will be the traditional potluck dinner Friday night, followed by a bonfire and drumming, a HUGE Bonfire Saturday night to drum and dance around, and special children's activities throughout the event.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all the Pagan Artists who have made their work available for free!! You can be sure someone. somewhere, got a numb behind designing all the neat little lines, buttons, and bars you see here! We got them from:
Check 'em out!!!!
An extra
special thank you
goes to Kie, Deaglos, and
Scooter (the brains of the team) !!!
